Center for Truck and Bus Safety: Human Factors and Advanced System Testing

Dr. Abhijit Sarkar is currently a research associate at the truck and bus safety, VTTI. He has received his doctoral degree from the department of electrical and computer engineering, Virginia Tech with an emphasis in computer vision and machine learning applications in biometrics, and remote measurements of physiological signals. Prior to that, he has received his master's degree in control systems engineering from Indian Institute of technology, Kharagpur, and bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University, India. His current research focuses on statistical data analysis from naturalistic driving data, applications of computer vision and machine learning in transportation research, autonomous vehicle applications, and driver behavior analysis. He has been associated with VTTI as a graduate research assistant for six years and has been part of several projects related to driver distraction and attention monitoring, V2V, data watermarking, and heavy vehicle. His expertise and interests include, computer vision, machine learning, signal processing, statistical data analysis, biometrics, and affective computing.
