Justin Owens, Research Scientist
Center for Vulnerable Road User Safety: Senior Mobility Awareness, Safety and HealthJustin Owens is a Research Scientist in the Center for Vulnerable Road User Safety at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. His research interests include senior driver safety, driver distraction, pedestrian and bicyclist safety, and the safety of road users with disabilities, including ongoing collaboration with the VT Center for Autism Research. Prior to joining VTTI, Dr. Owens earned his Ph.D. at Brown University, where his dissertation examined the role of visuospatial attention in the control of anticipatory locomotion. He earned his M.S. in Applied Psychology with a Human Factors concentration from Clemson University in 2003, where his research included studies of pedestrian visibility and an internship at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).
