Gibran Ali, Ph.D., is a senior research associate with the Division of Data & Analytics. His areas of research focus are characterizing driving behavior, scenario extraction from real-world data, test case development, and operational design domain-based evaluation of localities. At VTTI he has developed complex data-mining algorithms that sift through large datasets to extract various driving scenarios and created numerous interactive analytics tools to help users quickly extract deeper insights from data. Dr. Ali has taught undergraduate courses in mechatronics, control systems, and mechanical vibrations, and he also has significant experience in drivetrain simulation, performance evaluation, and energy harvesting. Dr. Ali's educational background includes a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Clemson University, and a B.Tech. in the same field from National Institute of Technology Srinagar. Prior to working at Virginia Tech, he worked as an R&D engineer at the vehicle performance and simulation center of Mahindra Automobiles.
