Ihab El-Shawarby, Research Scientist

Ihab El-Shawarby is a Research Scientist in the Center for Sustainable Mobility (CSM) at the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) and a Professor Emeritus with the Design & Production Engineering Department at Ain-Shams University, Cairo, Egypt.

Dr. El-Shawarby has more than 35 years of experience in the areas of operations research, driver behavior and performance, and transportation modeling and simulation. He has been involved as the Co-Principle/Faculty Investigator on over than 30 research projects and served as a Project Manager on multiple on-road driving studies, leading and coordinating experimental staff and researchers, assisting and providing support in experimental design, data collection, and data reduction. His current research focuses on operations research, Intelligent Transportation Systems, transportation modeling and simulation, driver behavior and performance evaluation, transportation environmental modeling, field data collection and field data analysis. Dr. El-Shawarby has published more than 60 journal articles and conference papers.
