Division of Technology Implementation is saving lives through its focus on at-risk road workers

The Division of Technology Implementation (DTI) is saving lives by developing the Work Zone of the Future, which uses technology to improve work zone safety. The technologies include Smart Vests, which use GPS to accurately specify where workers are and communicate this information to motorists as well as inform the wearer of any approaching out-of-control vehicles, the Work Zone Builder (which defines a map of work zones accessible to occupants of automated vehicles), and the Automated Truck-mounted Attenuator (ATMA) which gets drivers out of vehicles that tend to get hit in work zones.

DTI harnesses automation in order to get more and better data about the hazards of work zones and improve the safety of all who work in and travel through them.
