Do I have to pay to use VTTI's ROI Calculator?

NO! VTTI's website is free to use. However, the ROI Calculator is copyrighted.

Where did the default data originate?

The default data was recommended by industry experts after an extensive review of published data. These data represent the most accurate effectiveness and cost data publically available for large truck AEB, LDW, and video-based OSM systems. Please see the appropriate references for detailed information.

How were the cost-benefit ratios calculated?

VTTI followed the conventional methods as recommended by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the White House's Office of Management and Budget. Chapter 3 in the User Manual provides a high level overview of the calculations used to identify the technology and deployment costs of the ASTS, crash avoidance benefits, the net present value (NPV), the benefit-cost ratio (BCR), and payback period.

How do I interpret my results?

A BCR above 1.0 suggests the expected benefits of deploying an AST outweigh the expected costs of deploying an AST. For example, if AEB has a BCR of 3.75, AEB is expected to save $3.75 for every $1.00 spent on the technology. This indicates AEB may be cost effective. However, if AEB has a BCR of 0.69, AEB is expected to save $0.69 for every $1.00 spent on the technology. This indicates AEB may not be cost effective.

Chapter 3 in the User Guide provides additional information on interpreting your results.

Will my information remain confidential?

Yes! VTTI's website will not collect any identifying information from you or your company.
