Osama Osman, Research Associate

Dr. Osama A. Osman is a Research Associate in the Center for Sustainable Mobility at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute. Prior to joining VTTI, Dr. Osman worked as a Research Associate in the Civil and Environmental Engineering at Louisiana State University. From 2006 to 2010, he was a Teaching and Research Assistant in the Civil Engineering Department, at Cairo University-Egypt. During the same period, Dr. Osman was also working as a Transportation Engineer with the Civil and Environmental Engineering Group, and a laboratory engineer with the Highway, Traffic, and Airport Engineering Laboratory. Dr. Osman has extensive research experience in several transportation research areas including traffic modeling and simulation, traffic safety and human factors research, traffic operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Connected/Automated Vehicles, and application of artificial intelligence in transportation. Dr. Osman served as a PI or Co-PI on several research projects funded by the USDOT-UTC program and Louisiana DOTD in the areas of Active Traffic Management, Modeling and Experimental Testing of Connected/Automated Vehicle Technology, and Advanced Data Analytics using Machine Learning and Deep Learning Techniques. Dr. Osman has 45 publications in peer-reviewed journals, national and international conferences, a book chapter, and technical reports.

Dr. Osman serves as the chair of communications subcommittee of the TRB Standing Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Applications. He is also an active reviewer for several journals including the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE Transactions of Intelligent Transportation Systems, IEEE transactions on Intelligent Vehicles, Journal of Accident Analysis and Prevention, Journal of Safety Science, Journal of the Transportation Research Record, the Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering, Journal of Transportation Research-Part C, and Journal of Transportation Engineering: Part A.
