Communications Assistant

Paid Position $8.50-$9.50; Not for class credit

The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI) is currently accepting resumes for the position of Technical Editing Intern for winter/spring 2012. The successful candidate will work as part of the VTTI Proposal and Communications teams, which support research professionals with technical editing services. The intern will also be responsible for creating and updating biographies, resumes, and curricula vitae for VTTI staff and assisting with other duties as needed. Applicants must:

  • Be responsible and dependable
  • Have writing and/or editing experience
  • Be able to work independently and manage time wisely
  • Possess excellent communications skills and a high degree of professionalism

In addition, candidates must have the ability to:

  • Work independently and on a team while taking instruction from a project manager or intern supervisor
  • Complete tasks and assignments accurately and on deadline
  • Pay attention to detail
  • Interview staff to obtain information for biographies and resumes/CVs
  • Write and edit resumes/CVs and other technical documents as needed
  • Organize and format content of documents
  • Interact with a diverse faculty and staff

VTTI is located off-campus; therefore transportation is the responsibility of the Communications Assistant.

As a research institution, the environment will offer valuable experience in scientific communication. The ideal candidate will have coursework/experience in engineering, psychology, English (preferably technical writing), or communications, and an excellent work ethic. Proficiency in Microsoft Word required with skills in other Microsoft Office programs and Adobe Suite preferred, but not required.
