Participant Registration fee — $295; walk–ins — $345.00.

About the symposium

The Visibility Symposium, held regularly since 1968, brings together researchers, practitioners, consultants, transportation agencies, and industry to present and review contemporary research on issues related to the visual communication of information within the general transportation infrastructure.

Topics of interest

This invitation is extended to all researchers and practitioners who are working in areas related to the following areas of interest:

  • Pavement Marking Performance
  • Road Worker Conspicuity and Safety
  • Driver–based Performance Specifications/Changeable
  • Message Signs
  • LED Sign/Lighting Applications
  • Commercial Signs and Road Safety
  • Traffic Control Device Performance and Benefits
  • Adverse Weather Impacts on Driver Safety
  • Glare
  • Pedestrian Visibility
  • Driver Visibility
  • Vehicle Lighting

Proposal format

Individuals wishing to make a presentation at the symposium should submit a 500-1000 word extended abstract via e-mail (in text, MS-Word or PDF format). Abstracts should be submitted by March 16, 2009 to Sherri Box at visibilitysymposium@vtti.vt.edu

Final versions of selected PowerPoint presentations and/or papers will be posted on the symposium web site. Those wishing to then submit papers to the Transportation Research Record for publication will need to resubmit their papers through the normal TRB review process.
